Trading Standards called in as fake Apple products seized from North Lanarkshire shops

Shops in North Lanarkshire have been raided and found to be selling fake Apple products including AirPods.

Trading Standards Officers, alongside security staff from Apple, targeted the stores after tip-offs from disgruntled customers.

A number of local punters bought the fake Apple products believing them to be genuine, and reported the shops to Trading Standards bosses.

Officers from North Lanarkshire joined forces with those in across Glasgow and Renfrewshire, where had also been seized, during the operation earlier this week.

Six shops were visited across all three areas by Trading Standards staff with product security representatives acting for Apple there to test the dodgy electronic equipment.

The raids resulted in the recovery of a huge amount of Apple branded products including AirPods, charging cables and iPhone cases.

All the recovered products will now be examined by Apple security staff and a range of enforcement outcomes will be considered.

The shops now face a worrisome wait as Trading Standards decide whether to impose fine, or apply to the Court of Session or the Sheriff Court for an enforcement order.

A statement from Trading Standards said: "This type of action is aimed at protecting consumers by preventing the sale of counterfeit, and possibly unsafe products, throughout Scotland."
