Taylor Fresh Foods, based in Salinas, California, is recalling a range of finished food products containing jalapeño peppers due to possible Salmonella contamination, according to an official announcement posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on August 9, 2026.
Recalled Jalapeños Triggered the Wider Food Recall
The recall was triggered after Coast Citrus Distributors voluntarily recalled fresh jalapeños linked to a multistate Salmonella outbreak being investigated by the FDA and CDC in collaboration with state and local partners. A grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, that supplies jalapeños to Coast Citrus Distributors was identified as the potential source of the outbreak. Taylor Fresh Foods stated it is no longer sourcing products from that grower and will fill orders from alternative suppliers.
The recalled products include dips, salsas, guacamole, a shrimp salad, a spicy roast beef sandwich, a rice and bean burrito, diced jalapeños, and pico de gallo sold under several brand names. Brands affected include Trader Joe’s, Freshness Guaranteed (Walmart), Private Selection (Kroger), Taylor Farms, and unbranded items sold at Target, as well as store-brand products sold at Hannaford, Stop and Shop, and Kroger. The recalled items carry “Best If Used By” dates up to and including August 16, 2026.
The products were distributed to retail distribution centers in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.
No Illnesses Have Been Reported From These Specific Products
According to the company announcement, Taylor Fresh Foods is not aware of any reported illnesses linked to its specific products at this time.
Salmonella can cause serious illness, particularly in young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms in otherwise healthy individuals can include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and cause more severe conditions.
