'Track record' - Nottingham Forest fans make Steve Cooper point as Reds close in on transfer

Nottingham Forest are on the verge of tying up a deal for Stoke City striker Sam Surridge.

The Reds appear to have pipped Cardiff City to the signature of the 23-year-old, who played under Steve Cooper at Swansea City.

Forest are reportedly ready to pay around £2million for the former Bournemouth forward, with the deal on course to be completed before tonight's transfer deadline.

Some Reds fans have been left underwhelmed by the move for Surridge, while others are happy, pointing to the success of some of the club’s recent signings.

Here’s a taste of what supporters have been saying on social media…

@waynosmith: If Steve Cooper wants Sam Surridge at #nffc then that’s good enough for me.

@forestfanzone: We have some extremely deluded fans out there who expect us to sign a really expensive striker in case Grabban is injured — Surridge is ideal cover. Trust Cooper, Murphy & his recruitment team #nffc

@TobyNFFC: So we are pushing for Surridge a player who Cooper is an admirer of and the same fans saying to back him are calling it pointless?

@originallasagna: People slating Surridge already? Thought you'd have learned about slating signings under this regime so far. Spence, Lowe, Zinkernagel, Cook, Davis, all worked out really badly so far haven't they.

@NffcGlory: Sam Surridge??? Well that’s underwhelming to say the least #nffc

@Caz_NFFC: Young in striker terms. Not prolific but best years yet to come. I'd take him as a squad player but as immediate replacement for Grabban - like chalk & cheese. Murphy having a mare today #nffc

@Sam_Rowan: Cooper has a track record of improving younger players so if he wants Surridge, it is a yes. Keinan didn't exactly have the best record before joining and he's started well. Bottom line is if Cooper wants someone, back him. #NFFC

@TalkForest1: Surridge would be quality for us, I’ve always liked him but he needs a games and a manager like cooper who believes in him.

@LeesLogan: Sam Surridge wouldn’t be a bad signing tbh, Remember cooper knows how to get the best out of players. #NFFC
