Tourist car knocks down 6-year-old on Pune-Solapur road

PUNE: A six-year-old girl, Arohi Kalbhor, died after she was knocked down by a speeding tourist car in front of her house at Kunjirwadi on the Pune-Solapur road at 6.15pm on Saturday.

The Loni Kalbhor police are searching for the car driver, who ran away after abandoning his four-wheeler on the spot. “We have traced the car owner and have also found out the identity of the driver, who is on the run. We will arrest him soon,” said sub-inspector Amit Gore of the Loni Kalbhor police.

Gore told TOI, “The girl was playing in front of her house and was standing close to the highway carriageway when she was hit by the car. The family members reported the accident immediately but her uncle, Yogesh Kalbhor (31), lodged a formal complaint on Sunday night after completing the last rites of the deceased”.

“The other family members were in the house when the incident occurred”, he said, adding that the girl’s parents and relatives are farmers.”

“The tourist car was heading from Solapur to Pune. A spot analysis showed that the car driver lost control over the wheel, veered left of the carriageway and hit the girl,” he said.
