Tottenham transfer target snubs Arsenal offer as Mikel Arteta plots Youri Tielemans backup plan

Arsenal have been handed a major blow in their mission to sign a Youri Tielemans alternative. The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his midfield before the transfer window slams shut.

football.london understands that the Gunners are interested in signing Tielemans despite having already signed Fabio Vieira this summer. The north Londoners are known to be long admirers of the Belgium international, but with Thursday's deadline approaching and a deal yet to materialise, technical director Edu has begun to explore alternatives.

According to Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Arsenal contacted Paris Saint-Germain to enquire about signing Leandro Paredes. However, the report states that the Argentina international snubbed the Gunners to honour a commitment to join Juventus.

Di Marzio add that the Old Lady have been in the midst of finalising a deal to sign Paredes, but an agreement is yet to have been reached. It's thought that Juventus will pay around €15million (£13million) plus €5million (£4.3million) in add-ons.

But, the Italian giants and Arsenal are not the only side who want to sign Paredes - so does Tottenham, according to reports. In April, Calciomercato said that Antonio Conte shortlisted Paredes as a potential candidate to strengthen his midfield.

Nonetheless, Arteta has said that 'anything can happen' before the summer transfer window shuts. The Arsenal boss said: "What we can communicate we always do when it's the right moment. We discussed that we have a big squad and we've allowed some players to leave. Until the end of the window, anything can happen."

The Gunners have already welcomed five new faces to the Emirates Stadium this term, spending in the region of £120million on the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Matt Turner and Marquinhos. Arsenal have become one of the Premier League's biggest spending sides, and the north Londoners have shown no sign of slowing down.
