The Tottenham Hotspur players have decided collectively to cover the ticket costs of the fans who travelled to watch their embarrassing collapse at Newcastle United.
The humiliating 6-1 defeat at St James' Park, which brought five goals in the first 21 minutes, resulted in Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy sacking interim boss Cristian Stellini the following day, after just four matches in charge, with Ryan Mason taking over.
Now the players have made the gesture to those 3,000 supporters who travelled up and down the country to be served up such a display. They released a statement through the club on Tuesday for the fans.

"As a squad, we understand your frustration, your anger. Sunday wasn't good enough. We know words aren't enough in situations like this but believe us, a defeat like this hurts," it read. "We appreciate your support, home and away, and with this in mind we would like to reimburse fans with the cost of their match tickets from St James' Park.
"We know this does not change what happened on Sunday and we will give everything to put things right, starting against Manchester United on Thursday evening when, again, your support will mean everything to us. Together – and only together – can we move things forward."
The club added that: "Supporters who travelled to Newcastle should allow 24 hours for the refund process to be completed. Fans are advised that the funds will appear in the accounts used for the original booking in the next seven days."
The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust had been pushing the club for the fans who travelled to be refunded after the game and it now appears that the players at least have listened.
