Tottenham player ratings vs Liverpool: Spurs running on fumes in thumping loss

Tottenham lost 6-3 at home to league leaders Liverpool in another wildly entertaining occasion for Ange Postecoglou’s unique side.

Goals from Luiz Diaz and Alexis Mac Allister put the visitors in control but James Maddison halved the deficit.

Dominik Szoboszlai made it 3-1 in first-half stoppage-time and Liverpool raced into a 5-1 lead through Mohamed Salah’s double after the break.

Goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke made it 5-3 and set up a big finish, but Diaz scored again in the 85th-minute to settle a manic game.

Here’s how we rated the Spurs players…

Fraser Forster 4

Beaten six times and was shaky for Liverpool’s second and third goals. Still, it was a measure of how open Spurs were that he also made several smart saves.

Pedro Porro 5

Run ragged by Diaz, who was brilliant from the left flank. In common with so many of his teammates, the Spaniard needs a proper rest.

Radu Dragusin 4

Lost a crucial duel with Szoboszlai on the halfway line ahead of Liverpool’s crucial third goal and part of a Spurs’ back four which was routinely shredded.

Archie Gray 5

Easily his roughest game since filling in at centre-back. Hard to blame him given Liverpool’s quality and the intensity of Spurs’ schedule.

Djed Spence 5

Had the biggest test of his career against Salah. Had some good moments but struggled to contain the brilliant Egyptian.

Yves Bissouma 7

Snapped into tackles at the base of midfield and looked to drive forward in possession when possible. Spurs’ task would have been even harder if he had not played well.

Pape Matar Sarr 6

Had a couple of efforts in the first half but lost Diaz for the Liverpool opener. Tired after the interval and was replaced.

James Maddison 6

Halved the deficit with an excellent finish, shooting between two defenders to unsight Alisson Becker.

Dejan Kulusevski 8

The tireless Swede was a crucial outlet for Spurs down the right and set up Maddison’s goal before scoring for the fifth game running. A brilliant player.

Heung-min Son 6

Wasted a couple of bright positions in the first half in a sluggish display. Looks in need of a rest.

Dominic Solanke 7

Scored again with a smart poacher’s finish after getting the better of Virgil van Dijk. Growing in stature for Spurs.

Subs

Lucas Bergvall (Sarr 58’) 7

Saw plenty of the ball and was involved in the build-up to Spurs’ third goal. Also lost possession more than once in dangerous areas.

Brennan Johnson (Maddison 58’) 7

Set up Solanke’s consolation goal and forced a really good stop from Alisson.

Timo Werner (Son 82’) 6

Put in some dangerous crosses as Spurs kept pushing for more goals.

Not used: Austin, Reguilon, Udogie, Lankshear, Dorrington, Olusesi.
