Tottenham news: Memphis Depay's comments as Tanguy Ndombele's situation "complicated"

Memphis Depay's previous comments about making a return to English football could encourage Tottenham Hotspur in their bid to sign the Dutchman.

The Barcelona forward has just one year left on his contract in Spain, and the club's precarious financial position has led to reports that they may look to cash in on Depay this summer. He has been linked with a move to Spurs as Antonio Conte tries to find a replacement for his fellow Netherlands international Steven Bergwijn after he completed his move to Ajax.

And Depay has hinted in the past that he would be open to a return to England after leaving Manchester United in 2017. It comes as Spurs midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has opened up on his "complicated" situation following his loan spell at Lyon in the second half of last season.

Meanwhile former Aston Villa star Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Spurs are now a more attractive club to join than Manchester United.

Here are Mirror Football's latest Tottenham Hotspur headlines.

Depay's transfer comment

Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Memphis Depay has previously hinted he'd like to return to English football.

Antonio Conte's side have been linked with a £17million move for the Dutchman this summer as a potential replacement for Steven Bergwijn. It has led to comments Depay made in 2019 when he was still playing for Lyon resurfacing.

Asked whether he could see himself playing in England again, Depay said he would "never rule it out". The forward also said that the Premier League is "a very nice competition" – and his comments are bound to give SPurs hope they can land his signature.

Ndombele's situation 'complicated'

Tanguy Ndombele has opened up on his "complicated" situation.

The Frenchman's future in north London remains up in the air following his four-month loan spell at Lyon in the second half of last season. The Ligue 1 side did have an option written into the agreement to make the move permanent but decided to pass up on the opportunity to bring Ndombele back to the club.

And Ndombele says his situation is now "complicated", but added that he does not regret his loan move with Lyon "even if we struggled".

Agbonlahor's transfer claim

Former Aston Villa star Gabby Agbonlahor says that if he was playing nowadays he'd rather get a move to Tottenham Hotspur over Manchester United.

The Red Devils had become the most successful side in English football during Agbonlahor's playing days, but the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson has been followed by chaos at Old Trafford. David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer all struggled to bring the good times back to the club, who Spurs finished above in the Premier League last season as they secured Champions League qualification.

And Agbonlahor now says that if he were still playing and "had the choice to go to Spurs or Manchester United, I’m going to Spurs".
