Tottenham news: Djed Spence move 'close' as scouts sent to watch star in action

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly closing in on the signing of Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence.

The defender spent a highly-successful campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest last season, where he helped Steve Cooper's side gain promotion to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs. He now looks certain to leave the Riverside outfit permanently this summer, with Antonio Conte's Spurs leading the chase.

It comes as Tottenham scouts joined their counterparts from nine other clubs to watch Christian Eriksen in action for Denmark against Austria this week ahead of a potential move. And after being robbed at gunpoint while on holiday in Brazil,, Emerson Royal has recalled the terrifying ordeal.

Spence move 'close'

Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence's summer transfer switch to Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly 'close'.

The defender spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, who have now identified his replacement in a clear sign they won't be pushing to land him on a permanent deal. That opens the door for Spurs to push ahead with a move, with reports suggesting that a fee of over £15million is being demanded by Middlesbrough.

Scouts watch Eriksen

Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly among ten clubs to send their scouts to watch Christian Eriksen in action this week.

Antonio Conte has expressed his admiration for former Spurs ace Eriksen and is said to be keen on bringing the midfielder back to the club. Tottenham dispatched scouts to watch him play for his country this week, according to reports coming out of Eriksen's native Denmark.

Manchester United and West Ham United representatives were also present at Eriksen's side won 2-1 over Austria on Monday night.

Emerson recalls gunpoint robbery

Spurs right-back Emerson Royal has recalled the terrifying ordeal of being robbed at gunpoint while back home in Brazil.

The defender returned to his home country during the summer break. But, while he was stood outside of a nightclub, an armed man approached him, prompting an off-duty police officer to intervene.

Despite a number of rounds being fired, no one was injured in the incident and the robber is now being held under police observation at hospital. And Emerson says he has learnt to be "careful in several situations" after recounting exactly what happened during the horror incident.
