Tottenham make progress in frantic race to shift five unwanted players before striker push

Tottenham are working frantically to offload unwanted players before Friday's transfer deadline.

Spurs are still hoping to find takers for ex-captain Hugo Lloris, Tanguy Ndombele, Japhet Tanganga, Sergio Reguilon and Eric Dier.

On Wednesday morning, Djed Spence joined Championship side Leeds on a season-long loan, without an option or obligation for a permanent move, for a fee in the region of £1million.

Spurs are in talks with Genoa over a loan for Ndombele, although it remains to be seen if the mercurial Frenchman can be persuaded to join the newly-promoted Serie A club after spending last season at champions Napoli.

They are also hoping to send Tanganga on loan to Torino, with a purchase option at the end of the campaign.

Dier is understood to have been offered to German giants Bayern Munich, having been left out of the squad for all four matches under Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs would also listen to attractive offers for Davinson Sanchez and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, despite both starting last night's Carabao Cup second-round tie at Fulham.

They have rebuffed a bid worth around £7.7m from Rennes for Sanchez, although the French club could return with an improved offer for the centre-half.

Spurs are among the clubs to have been offered the chance to sign Barcelona's Ansu Fati on loan but they need to clear the decks before bringing in more players.

They are expected to make a late bid for Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson, assuming the majority of sales go through, while Postecoglou wants a new centre-half in the event that Sanchez, Dier and Tanganga leave.

“We need to trim the squad and get it to a more manageable state and see what's available for us to bring in players to strengthen a couple of players we may need,” Postecoglou said last night.
