Tottenham are closing in on a deal to sign Genoa centre-back Radu Dragusin for around £25million, with Djed Spence in line to move the other way on loan.
The club was on Tuesday morning ironing out the finer details with Genoa of a deal for Dragusin worth £21.5m up front, plus a further £4m in adds-ons.
On Monday, Bayern Munich considered hijacking the move, making contact with Dragusin's camp, but Genoa did not receive a formal bid from the German giants.
Genoa's Serie A rivals Napoli were also keen on the 21-year-old and made a players-plus-cash offer at the end of last week, but the Romania international preferred a move to the Premier League.
Dragusin is expected to provide cover for first-choice centre-halves Cristian Romero, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, and Micky van de Ven.
Depending on the speed with which Spurs complete the deal, Dragusin could be in the squad for Sunday's match at Manchester United.
Spence, 23, is set for another overseas loan, after spending the second half of last season at French club Rennes.
The full-back, who was signed from Middlesbrough in a deal worth up to £20m in 2022, spent the first half of this season on loan at Leeds, but the Championship club activated a break clause at the start of this month after he failed to win over head coach Daniel Farke.

Spence on Monday trained with Spurs's Under-21 side and is not under consideration for Ange Postecoglou's side in the immediate future.
He is now set for an opportunity to impress in the Serie A for mid-table Genoa in a loan deal which would run until the end of the season.
