The past year has been an absolute rollercoaster for former Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen. Euro 2020 saw the midfielder collapse in the middle of Denmark’s game with Finland, but he has since made one of the greatest comebacks to the sport after doubts over whether his playing career could continue.
The 30-year-old had to have an ICD implanted, which is a small device that can prevent fatal cardiac arrests with a jolt to restore the heart back to its normal rhythm. Because of that and Serie A regulations, he was not clear to play the rest of this season with his club Inter Milan.
In his desire to continue playing, his contract with the Nerazzurri was mutually terminated and he was free to train and join another club. Eriksen did so, joining Premier League side Brentford, where he has shone on his return to England.

In just four Premier League appearances this season, he has managed to score once and assist once, with his ability on the ball quite clearly picking up where he left off. It has naturally led Bees manager Thomas Frank to answer questions about his future beyond this season, saying: “I know Christian [Eriksen] is enjoying his football and really enjoying being back. I know I will have to answer these questions until the end of the season, so let’s see what will happen.”
In light of his upcoming contract expiration, the Daily Mail reports that Spurs are interested in bringing the Dane back to the club in the summer. He spent seven years at the club already, joining from Ajax in 2013 and leaving for Inter in 2020.
A return could continue the fairytale return of Eriksen, with the player already used to the club as well as the manager. Antonio Conte was, in fact, the manager at Inter Milan to sign him, guiding the Serie A club to the Scudetto and ending Juventus’ reign at the top of the league.
The Italian coach knows how to get the best out of him, the system would fit from his time at Inter and he is used to Spurs. The move could fit perfectly.
That’s not to say there won’t be competition though, as the report also claims that Manchester United are interested in a move. The Red Devils are set to undergo a rebuild in the summer, with a new manager to be appointed in the coming months.
It could be an interesting battle for his signature at the end of the season, with the comeback story for Eriksen continuing. But could he add a second spell at Spurs in the next chapter?
