Tottenham moved into the top four with a resounding win over Newcastle on Sunday.
While Hugo Lloris should have done better for Fabian Schar’s opener, a free-kick from just outside the box, Ben Davies’ emphatic header only a few minutes after gave Spurs a platform from which to build.
After an even first-half to have ended in both teams scoring, Harry Kane helped change the game. Dropping further back to dictate the tempo, it was the England’s captain ever-impressive range of passing that opened the game up.
Matt Doherty, looking like one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Antonio Conte era, headed in at the back post following a delightful Kane cross to put Spurs ahead only minutes after the interval and, from there, the floodgates opened.
Kane’s lofted ball to Dejan Kulusevksi allowed the Swedish international to break behind Matt Targett out on the left and feed Heung-min Son, who finished with ease from close range.
Doherty then teed up Emerson Royal with a cross from the byline as Tottenham showed a perfect hallmark of a Conte team as wing-back set up wing-back.
Son and Kane could well have added to the tally before substitute Steven Bergwijn scored a fifth to ramp up the pressure on Arsenal ahead of their game at Crystal Palace on Monday.
