Tory peers tonight voted down a plea to extend free school meals to 1.3million extra poor kids after Boris Johnson refused to do so.
The House of Lords defeated a Lib Dem amendment to the Schools Bill that aimed to extend the lifeline to all children on Universal Credit.
The party claimed the amendment could have forced the government to “ensure funding is sufficient” for the move, which Labour say could benefit around 1.3million extra pupils.
