Tories wasted nearly £100bn of YOUR money in just four years, data reveals

THE Tories have “wasted” nearly £100 billion of taxpayers money in the last four years, according to a new report.

Most of the spending – on axed or “dubious” projects like a new helicopter – came under Rishi Sunak in his previous role of chancellor or his current job of Prime Minister.

Best for Britain calculated the Government “wastefully spent or dubiously allocated” around £99.4bn of taxpayers’ money since 2019 in a report published ahead of the Budget on Thursday.

This includes £140 million on the botched Rwanda deal and £2.3bn on the scrapped parts of HS2.

Another £1.7m was said to have been spent on painting the Prime Minister’s planes as well as slightly less than £15bn on unused or unusable healthcare safety gear during the pandemic.

Naomi Smith, CEO of Best for Britain, said: “The notion that the Tories are safe with money has been blown out of the water.

“It’s disgraceful that the government continues to squander huge amounts of public money whilst so many struggle to feed their families and heat their homes.

“We can’t wait any longer for change. This fiscally inept, and morally bankrupt government must go and that’s why at the next election, Best for Britain will organise the most powerful tactical voting operation the nation has ever seen.”

A UK Government spokesperson told the Sunday Mirror, who first revealed the figures: “We are keeping spending under control and rooting out waste.

“This includes accelerating productivity reforms and creating an independent body to stamp out public sector fraud.”
