Top Gear said they are 'fully investigating' Freddie Flintoff's car crash which landed him in hospital.

The 45-year-old former cricketer was injured on the show's test track in Surrey and BBC confirmed that 'crew medics attended the scene immediately'.

It was stressed by Top Gear that 'all health and safety procedures' were properly followed before he got injured.

Sources even claimed the injuries weren't 'life-threatening' and said he has been receiving treatment.

A spokesman for the show said: "Our primary concern is and has been for the welfare of Freddie – as well as the Top Gear team.

"All health and safety procedures were followed on site and the incident is now being fully investigated, in line with standard policy and practice."

Following reports of his crash, a BBC spokesperson confirmed the news with a statement.

Freddie's teenage son Corey, 16, broke his silence on Wednesday and said his dad is 'lucky to be alive' following the car smash.

His co-star Chris Harris – who presents the show alongside the former cricketer and Paddy McGuinness – was also at the Top Gear test track.

Corey said his family have been left 'shocked' after his dad was airlifted to hospital.

The teen says his mother had raced to be beside the former cricket star's hospital bed when their family heard the news.
