Immediately after the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime of Super Bowl 58, there was one person on the mind of CBS color commentator Tony Romo:
Michael Jordan.
Just moments after Patrick Mahomes tossed the game-winning touchdown to Mecole Hardman Jr., Romo evoked Jordan’s name in an attempt to encapsulate all that Mahomes has accomplished so far in his NFL career. To win his third Super Bowl in five years – and second straight – Mahomes played incredibly well, throwing for 333 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 66 yards.
Here’s what Romo had to say as he compared the 28-year-old Chiefs quarterback to the six-time NBA champion:
“He is the best. He is the standard. Your Michael Jordan wins it again.”

Of course, Mahomes needs to win three more Super Bowls to actually match Jordan in championships. And a lot of folks would still argue that it’s Tom Brady – winner of seven Super Bowls, and MVP of five of them – who is actually the MJ of the NFL.
Still, it’s inarguable that Mahomes is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time. His Chiefs are the first team to repeat as champions since Brady’s Patriots in 2004 and 2005.
