Tony Ferguson clarifies cocaine accusation aimed at UFC legend Daniel Cormier

Tony Ferguson has insisted he wasn't accusing Daniel Cormier of taking cocaine during their social media row last week.

Ferguson, who was recently knocked out by Michael Chandler at UFC 274, had posted a picture of Cormier pushing down a towel whilst weighing in at one of his past fights. 'El Cucuy' claimed Cormier should have been stripped of his light-heavyweight belt for the controversial weigh-in.

Cormier then responded to Ferguson urging him to get help after his knockout loss and his attack on the former two-weight champion wasn't a "good look". Ferguson then alleged Cormier should lay off the "yay" [cocaine], but has now clarified his comments.

"It's called hype. Yay, it's hype," Ferguson told Submission Radio. "What I like do to is throw a lot things, and what people do is they put out what they think about it. They're called riddles, half the time when people put out riddles, what do you think happens?

"People don't know what I talk about on Instagram on Twitter 'they're like what is he using all these emojis for'. I get messages from people all over the world. sometimes they don't know what I'm talking about. It's because it's not for them. It's for one person in particular.

After the accusation, Cormier warned Ferguson he could take legal action over the claim. "Ok Tony now you’re reaching. Are you saying I do cocaine? I’m so confused right now," he wrote. "I don't know why you’re after me. Get Michael Chandler he’s the one kicked your face not me."

Cormier is a teammate of Ferguson's longtime rival Nurmagomedov. Ferguson was booked to fight the now-retired UFC champion five times in the UFC, but each time the bout was cancelled and it never took place.

Ferguson went on to admit that he has respect for Cormier's MMA accomplishments. During the UFC 274 broadcast, it was announced that 'DC' would be inducted into the promotion's Hall of Fame this summer. Cormier retired from fighting in 2020 with a record of 22-3.

"When it goes to DC and how he carries himself and for the hall of fame, I've got to give him props for that. I don't have any animosity towards DC, I'm not going to send my kids to his camp right away. Maybe in the future, cause he does know a thing or two," Ferguson added.
