Tommy Sheridan has revealed that the tragic fire that claimed the life of his mum Alice was accidental.
The veteran Scots political figure's mother, who was 84, died on Sunday March 12 after a fire took hold at her flat in Invergyle Drive in the Cardonald area of Glasgow. The former Scottish Socialist Party man said on Monday that the fire was accidental, following an investigation by police and fire services.
In a post on his Facebook page, Mr Sheridan said: "My two sisters and our respective families wish to put on record our deepest gratitude...in respect of our mum’s sad death from an accidental house fire on Sunday 12th March. We have been literally overwhelmed by the warmth and kindness we have received from all across Scotland and further afield.
"We want to thank you from the bottom of our broken hearts for your acts of human solidarity which have raised our spirits and inspired us at a difficult time. Alice was clearly a much loved and well-respected woman."
Mr Sheridan detailed the funeral arrangements for his mother in the post. She will be taken from Invergyle Drive in Cardonald at 9.15am to Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel for a requiem mass at 10am. He has asked mourners to wear bright colours for the service, which will be followed by a family service and eulogy.
He added: "Thanks again for all your love and kindness. It really is very much appreciated.
"As my mum often said strangers are only friends we are yet to meet. That was her philosophy on life and the way she lived her life."
