The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback controversy ended when Russell Wilson was named the week 1 starter against the Atlanta Falcons, or so it seemed. It has been assumed all season that Justin Fields would factor into this offense in one facet or another. However, Mike Tomlin is using this opportunity to highlight the battle of head coaches, in which Tomlin is likely winning.
Mike Tomlin warned that a Justin Field package was heading to Atlanta and that Head Coach Raheem Morris “better be ready”. In response, Morris seemed to take the bait of his former colleague.
Falcons HC Raheem Morris on Mike Tomlin telling him to prepare for Justin Fields: “That’s a nice way to make me waste time. He’s a master at it. And he’s conducting a masterclass, or he’s not. And Fields is gonna show up.” #Steelers #NFL

If Tomlin is choosing to waste the time of Atlanta’s head coach, facing an overstretched defense could heavily benefit the Steelers’ starting offense. If Justin Fields does show up early and often, the defense not only has to prepare for 9-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson, but a dual-threat, former 1,000-yard rushing quarterback as well.
