Tom Daley has confirmed the arrival of his second child. The Olympic diver and his husband Lance Black revealed the news in an unusual way and also confirmed their newborn son's unique name.
Rather than a big social media announcement common with those in the showbiz world, Tom, 28 and Dustin, 48, revealed they quietly expanded their brood with an announcement in The Times, sharing that their second-born was born on 28 March.
The happy couple announced their baby joy in the low-key announcement which read: "Black-Daley on 28th March to Thomas Robert Daley and Dustin Lance Black, a son, Phoenix Rose.'"
Tom and Dustin welcomed their first child via surrogate, another little boy named Robert Ray in 2018. His arrival came after the couple wed in May 2017 at Bovey Castle in Devon.
Olympian Tom has previously spoken about his decision to use an American surrogate because surrogates and parents were not afforded the same legal rights as they were in the U.S. Following the arrival of Robert, who is named after Tom's late father, he explained: "We looked into it in the UK and in the US.
"In the UK it’s a lot more complicated because surrogates aren’t as well protected legally, intended parents aren’t protected legally, it’s just not safe, there’s a lot of hurdles to have to jump over. In the US, everything is regulated in a way that keeps everyone safe and in the US the surrogacy process is a lot more streamlined."
Last year, Tom also shared how he and Dustin were keen to have a child together to carry on their lineage after both experiencing the loss of their loved ones. He told Giovanna Fletcher on her Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast in May: "Lance and I […] had lost so many people in our families and there was something about surrogacy that we were drawn to that just meant that we could pass on the people that we’d lost, their genes and their thoughts, their feelings, their personalities and being able to bring someone into the world, that felt so extremely special."
