Toddler and man hit by train at Glasgow station and rushed to hospital

A man and two-year-old child have been rushed to hospital after being struck by a train in Glasgow.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at Garrowhill Train Station in the east end at around 7.30pm yesterday (July 2) after reports of two people on the tracks. Both the man and toddler sustained injuries, with the child's not believed to be life-threatening and the man in a serious condition.

An investigation was launched by British Transport Police following the incident with an appeal for any eyewitnesses to come forward.

A spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Garrowhill station shortly before 7.30pm on 2 July following reports of two casualties on the tracks.

"Officers attended and two people – an adult man and a two-year-old child – were taken to hospital where they both remain.

"Both people sustained injuries from being hit by a train. The child’s injuries are not currently believed to be life-threatening, and the man remains in a serious condition.

"Detectives are investigating the full circumstances of the incident and believe there were a number of people on the platform at the time who may have witnessed what happened. Anyone who witnessed what happened and hasn’t already spoken to police is urged to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 with reference 564 of 2 July."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 19:27 on 2 nd June to attend an incident at Garrowhill Train Station, Glasgow. We dispatched multiple resources to the scene, and one patient was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.”
