There's apparent resentment over how things ended at Norwich City - but that might only play into Rangers hands when it comes to Todd Cantwell's form.
The playmaker has impressed in Michael Beale's side since making the move from Carrow Road in January, where he shone at Premier League level in season 2019/20 before finding a similar vein harder to come by in recent seasons. It doesn't seem to have end harmoniously either, with Cantwell taking to Instagram this month to suggest 'the situation and the way I was treated will be revealed and my fans and fans of the club will know the truth' when it comes to his Norwich departure.
Former Canaries and Rangers midfielder Graham Dorrans tells the Daily Mail that while he doesn't know what's gone on, that disappointment could turn into a fuel for silencing a few critics. The 35-year-old, who was at the Championship side as Cantwell was breaking through, said: "I don't know the ins and outs of what happened at Norwich but there was obviously something going on because I've seen the posts he put out. if a situation has happened, or if they've told him he's surplus to requirements, it can hurt your ego a little bit. He might have the bit between his teeth to come up here and go: 'I'll show them. I'll show how good I am.'
"He might think he's got a point to prove or maybe want to prove people wrong at Norwich. 'That can only be beneficial to Rangers.
"He's probably a player who needs that, to be honest, he was a nice kid, more than willing to learn and get better. If he has that little bit of anger about him and that little bit between his teeth, I think it will help him get better and be beneficial to both him and Rangers.
'You could see when he first came through that he had bags of ability. There wasn't any pressure on him at that age wasn't really bothered about stepping into a first-team environment and just kept doing what he'd been doing in the U18s and U19s.
"It's a good trait to have. You need a little bit of cockiness, but there's a fine line now with some young players who come through. Todd had that bit of cockiness, but he didn't cross into arrogance as you see sometimes.
"He was willing to come in, work hard and learn. Todd was touted for a big move and deservedly so, because he was a real stand-out for Norwich that season when they ended up going down.
"Back in the Championship, everyone on the outside was probably expecting him to be the top man. Unfortunately that didn't really happen.
"I think his career had stalled a bit in the last couple of seasons. The timing of coming to Rangers was probably perfect for him."
