Titans' halfback Tanah Boyd targets Red V redemption

Gold Coast half Tanah Boyd was "dirty" on himself with his last kicking display against St George Illawarra but is determined to make amends in the home NRL clash.

Boyd has kicked well in general play ever since being moved to the No.7 position late last season but had an off night in the 32-18 loss to the Dragons at Kogarah in round two where he found the breezy conditions at the suburban ground tough to handle.

He kicked out on the full and failed to find touch with two penalty kicks for the sideline but the 22-year-old is not one to kick stones.

"I was so dirty on myself because I know that is not how I go about things usually," Boyd told AAP ahead of Sunday's return clash.

"I had to move on pretty quick from that. I look back on it and knew I had to be smarter and take my time more. I don't think I will ever do that again.

"That is the rugby league rollercoaster. It is all about learning and I have learnt from it.".

Boyd's kicking game has mostly been outstanding this season and he credited former Brisbane assistant coach Kurt Richards for his development.

"From a young age I always enjoyed the kicking side of the game and I had a really good mentor coming through the grades at the Broncos in Kurt," Boyd said.

"He is at the Dolphins now doing their development stuff and he helped me learn how to kick.

"It was all up to me after that. Now it is about being smart with my different selection of kicks so I can control the game.

"So far it has been pretty good but there are is always room for improvement in all parts of my game."

Boyd will have a new halves partner on Sunday with Toby Sexton playing at No.6 in his first NRL game of the season after Kieran Foran was ruled out with a calf injury.

"It is exciting to be back with Sexy. We had a couple of years in the (reserves) together," Boyd saud.

"I still feel as though I am going to take control of the team and lead the boys around but he's got to do his part as well."

With Foran out, Boyd will move to the left side of the field where he will try and get second-rower David Fifita into space.
