Titans’ first-team will not play vs. Seahawks, Malik Willis named starting QB

The Tennessee Titans plan to rest their starters for this Saturday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Head coach Brian Callahan confirmed this decision after the team’s joint practice on Thursday, as reported by Jim Wyatt of Titans Online. This news aligns with Callahan’s statement earlier this week that the starters would primarily get their first-team reps in practice sessions.

As such, the backups will get some runway to showcase themselves against a formidable opponent. Third-year quarterback Malik Willis has been named as the starting quarterback for Saturday’s game, which will be played at Nissan Stadium.

Willis entered last week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers in the second half and completed 5-of-7 passes for 38 yards while adding 42 yards on the ground.

The Liberty product was initially listed as the third-string quarterback on the Titans’ first unofficial depth chart.

It remains uncertain how many of the Seahawks’ first-team players will participate and for how long, but a strong showing could increase his chances of moving up in the quarterback depth chart.
