In news that has shaken the internet — Timothée Chalamet is out and about New York dressed up as Bob Dylan. From where we are sat, though, he really does just look like a member of the young Hackney dad brigade.
For those who have not seen, the Wonka actor has begun filming for A Complete Unknown, a Dylan biopic directed by James Mangold. And while it’s true that London is experiencing a swing back to all things Sixties at present, Chalamet is on a one man mission to ensure that spirit travels to the States.
Such is the wardrobe that has leaked off set so far — all suede jackets, battered cowboy boots and Wayfarer Ray Bans. Day time looks — those for smoking cigarettes on park benches and reading brown paper letters — consist of dirty denim and striped shirts, while a narrower chino and suede heeled Chelsea boots makes for outfits after dark. These photographs come after more bedraggled snaps of the actor in fraying, mustard scarf, baker boy cap and backpack (guitar in hand) at the end of last week.
While we are a way off the press tour (only a month ago, Chalamet was still doing the rounds with Zendaya for Dune), the question is whether he will play into the latest fad for method red carpet dressing (see: him in plastic, purple suits for Wonka and leather, boiler-cum-space suits for Dune.) If yes, expect more suede (less backless showstoppers).
For those wanting the look, don’t over complicate it – all you need a is pair of unwashed Levi’s, black out sunglasses and a good, camel leather jacket. Simply accessorise with a a fresh sourdough loaf from E5 Bakehouse.
