Chelsea striker Timo Werner has fired a warning towards Liverpool ahead of the FA Cup final tomorrow and said that the Reds ‘have always had problems against us’
Liverpool head to Wembley in search of their eighth FA Cup victory as they continue their quest for an unprecedented quadruple. Chelsea are in their third successive final in the competition having lost to Leicester and Arsenal in 2021 and 2020 respectively.
Despite being 16 points clear in the league, it won’t be easy for Liverpool with the Reds having not beaten Chelsea in normal time this season on three separate occasions. In both Premier League games they drew - 1-1 against a 10-man Chelsea at Anfield and 2-2 at Stamford Bridge. Similarly, the Carabao Cup final was anything but your classic 0-0. Chelsea had three goals ruled out for offside while Liverpool had one before Kepa Arrizabalaga’s missed penalty handed the Reds an 11-10 spot kick victory.

Werner has scored 11 goals in 37 appearances this season and was heavily linked with Liverpool before his £53m move to Chelsea in 2020. He believes that Chelsea will be able to upset the odds on Saturday, as they did last season when they beat Manchester City in the Champions League final.
"When you are three years in a row in the final and lose it three times, that would not be the best record that you can put into the history of the FA Cup," he told the Mirror. "But I think the FA Cup Final is a bit similar to the Champions League Final last year. I think there we were also a bit the underdogs, but it fits us very well, I think. With the structure we have.
“Liverpool have always had problems against us. In the last two years that I’ve been here we always had good games against Liverpool. We never lost in 90 minutes, so I think we also won some games. It makes it a lot of fun to play against Liverpool. They defend very deep, because they are also very brave, they also defend very high, so maybe that fits my style of football a bit better. It is fun.”
Werner explained how determined his side were to lift the trophy and was full of praise for the Reds ahead of the clash. He said: “To win the FA Cup at the end of the season gives the season this touch. It is one of the biggest cups in Europe. The oldest cup in England. We want to win this cup. We are all happy that we have also a very good opponent where it makes it much fun to play in this final and we want to win it.”
