Tim Sherwood backed to replace Antonio Conte at Tottenham: ‘You could do a lot worse’

Tim Sherwood should be a contender to replace Antonio Conte as Tottenham manager, according to Teddy Sheringham.

The former Spurs striker has backed his former team-mate to return to north London as the club prepare to sack Conte before his contract runs out in the summer.

Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino have both been linked with the job while the Italian stays away from training during a break at his family home.

But Sheringham believes there is a better option out here.

“Let [Conte] go and bring someone else in,” he told talkSPORT.

“I’d let him go now and get [Tim Sherwood] in. I would. I think you can do a lot worse than getting Tim Sherwood in.

“He’s a man who knows what he wants as a football manager. He’s had a couple of goes, he’s been sacked and he understands the game. If you listen to him talk, you know he knows how football works.

“Football minds, he can see who is cheating, who wants the ball and who doesn’t. Get him in charge and get them in shape.”

Sherwood, 54, managed Spurs for five months after succeeding Harry Redknapp in December 2013, winning half of his 28 games in charge.
