Zach Wilson has officially been benched. The Jets will start Tim Boyle at quarterback Friday against the Miami Dolphins.
Wilson was benched during Sunday’s 32-6 loss to the Buffalo Bills after going just 7-for-15 for 81 yards. He didn’t complete a single pass to a wide receiver during the game.
Boyle replaced Wilson late in the third quarter. He finished 7/14 for 33 yards. Friday will mark Boyle’s first start since 2021 when he was with the Detroit Lions. Boyle started three games that year and also appeared in one game last season for the Bears.

We’ll see what happens next with Wilson, but a release, allowing him to start anew elsewhere, isn’t out of question. pic.twitter.com/Z7Cglojtsg

This is the second year in a row the Jets benched Wilson and started a different quarterback going into Week 12. Last year, it was Mike White against the Bears. This year, it’ll be Boyle against the Dolphins.
This likely signals the end of an era in New York for the former No. 2 overall pick. If so, he’ll finish with an 11-20 record as the starting quarterback with 21 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.
It remains to be seen what the Jets do with Wilson for the immediate future but it’s not out of the question he gets demoted to No. 3m as he did last year behind White and Joe Flacco. Trevor Siemian is the No. 3 at the moment on the practice squad. He could be brought up to the active roster to be the backup.
