Flying can be expensive, especially with children or at peak times like summer holidays, but there are ways to get your fare for a lower price. One TikTok user has shared their hacks for cheaper flights and they’re actually pretty straightforward.
The account @shemamamaps is a page dedicated to travel tips and has posted a wide variety of videos sharing different hacks and ways of making the most out of your money. While the account is run by an American-based person and shares a lot of tips about travelling around the States, a lot of her videos also provide excellent tips for packing light as well as how to get cheaper flights.
One of the videos shares ‘secret tips to save money on flights. In the post, viewers are told what days are the best to travel on, with Friday being the most expensive. It was also explained that the cheapest flights tend to be at midnight on a Tuesday.

It says: "The cheapest day to depart is Wednesday. The cheapest day to return is Tuesday for domestic flights. The cheapest day to return is Wednesday for international flights."
They say they've been travelling for 40 years and during that time have learned the best times to book.
The comments section of the video has had loads of responses with many even adding their own tips and tricks they use when planning their flights abroad. One commenter said: “Most important tip…clear your cookies each time you go online to search.”
In a separate video @shemamamaps explains why clearing your browser cache, which includes cookies, can have an effect on price. They said: “Some airlines may increase prices if they detect that you’ve searched for a particular flight multiple times. Clear your browser cache or use a private browsing window to avoid this.”
Another commenter also suggested using Skyscanner, an app that compares the prices of all possible flights to your destination, including connecting flights, from your selected location, finding the cheapest options on offer.
Someone else wrote: "To the person who posted this I was just searching this omg and you are right 3,800 for four 1st class tickets. Thank you so much."
While flight prices can vary, depending on the time of year or where you’re flying to, weekdays do appear to be the cheaper days for travelling, even in the UK. Using the Skyscanner website, a one-way adult economy ticket from Bristol Airport to Tenerife could cost as little as £31 on a Tuesday whereas on a Friday that cost jumps to £46 for the same single journey.
