Students in Wyoming County, West Virginia, returned to a normal schedule this week after staph infections, including the drug-resistant type known as MRSA, shut down three schools for the rest of last week. Wyoming East High School, Westside High School, and Mullens Elementary-Middle School closed so a professional cleaning company could disinfect the buildings, WV MetroNews reported on Oct. 13.
The rest of the county's schools closed for one day so staff could deep-clean. The Wyoming County Health Department confirmed the staph infections and said MRSA was among them, but officials have not publicly released how many students were infected or how the bacteria spread.
