Three Premier League clubs battle for 'Matt O'Riley record Celtic transfer'

Three Premier League clubs are reportedly set to battle for Matt O'Riley's signature this summer.

The Celtic midfielder is set to be a man in demand during the transfer window with significant interest in England and Europe.

Atletico Madrid had an approach for O'Riley booted out in January with Inter Milan credited as possible suitors for the 23-year-old.

Now, The Scottish Sun reports Brighton are currently leading a "big-money chase" for O'Riley.

It's claimed the Premier League side are set to take a step away from their bargain-hunting transfer model with Celtic set to hold out for a record Scottish transfer fee - in excess of the £25m paid for Kieran Tierney by Arsenal.

West Ham and Everton are the other two top-flight English clubs said to be in the hunt to sign O'Riley from Celtic over the summer.

Brighton sent top scout Tim Coe to watch O'Riley in the 2-1 win over Rangers - where the midfielder scored the opener for his side.

And West Ham and Everton are also thought to have had a presence watching O'Riley in action during the derby fixture.

It comes after O'Riley admitted it would be "very difficult" to leave Celtic as he opened up on how he fell in love with the club after his move north from MK Dons.

Asked how difficult it would be to walk away from Celtic during title celebrations, O'Riley said on Sky Sports: "That's a tough question.

"It would be very difficult. I have said before, the club means a lot to me now.

"Right from day one I kind of fell in love with the club because the fans are so crazy and passionate - it is just a proper fan base.

"One more game to focus on and then take it from there."
