Authorities in a northwest Illinois community have confirmed that three Ogle County Sheriff's deputies sustained injuries in a shooting incident that took place in Dixon.
The Ogle County Sheriff's Department swiftly responded to a residence in the Lost Lake gated community following reports of a shooting just before 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to authorities, an individual at the location had made threats of suicide and homicide, prompting the activation of an emergency response team.
Hostage negotiations were initiated, with officials making 50 phone calls in an attempt to establish contact with the individual, all of which went unanswered.
Due to the lack of communication with the person inside the residence, law enforcement made the decision to enter the home.
Upon entering the premises, the deputies came under fire, resulting in three of them sustaining gunshot wounds. They were promptly transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and are reported to be in stable condition, as confirmed by the police.
Additionally, the suspect involved in the shooting was also shot and is currently in good condition.
The Illinois State Police have taken over the investigation and will be leading the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident moving forward.
