Three men taken to hospital following brawl outside Dumfries Pub

Three men were taken to hospital following a brawl outside a Dumfries pub on Saturday evening.

Police rushed to the Salutation Inn on Market Square after a clash between rival football supporters and members of the public at around 5pm.

Three men aged 41, 54 and 58 were taken to Dumfries Infirmary after the disturbance.

Police investigating the fight are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time.

Detective Constable Allister Queen said: “This was a serious incident and it is vital we trace those responsible. This level of disorder and criminality will not be tolerated.

“Not only were people hurt but those trying to enjoy their weekend in the local area were left intimidated by the behaviour of a small number of people. I would urge anyone who saw what happened or has footage of the incident to contact Police Scotland.

“You can do this by phoning 101 and quoting reference 2626 of 23 April 2022 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Two clips of the brawl have emerged since Saturday evening. One was recorded by a passer-by as the incident is ending with the other coming from CCTV of a nearby business.

In the CCTV footage a large group of people can be seen approaching the Salutation Inn.

The group then start to leave the area and head around the corner towards the Buccleuch Street Bridge making for the town
centre.

But a verbal altercation takes place before a fight breaks out and more members of the group return to the Salutation Inn where the brawl continues as more people spill out of the pub and three men are knocked to the ground.

Several emergency service vehicles attended the scene and left a short time later.

The fight took place in the aftermath of Queen of the South’s 1-1 draw with Ayr United at nearby Palmerston Park.

The draw relegated the Doonhamers to League One.
