Three Just Stop Oil protesters charged with public nuisance after M25 demo

Three environmental protesters who forced sections of M25 to be closed on Wednesday have been charged with public nuisance.

Five Just Stop Oil campaigners climbed three gantries along the motorway, forcing highways authorities to close lanes near Heathrow Airport and Dartford Crossing.

The Met Police has said that three have been charged and that it relates to incidents between junctions 14 and 15 - on the edge of Hertfordshire in Waltham Cross and Potters Bar.

The three are Alexander Wilcox, 21, from Milton Keynes, Cressida Gethian, 20, of no fixed address, and Emma Mani, 45, from Berkhamsted.

They will appear in custody at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The group hung sheeting on the gantries and said it was declaring the M25 "a site of civil resistance" with further protests on the way.

Essex Police arrested a woman on Wednesday in relation to incidents between junctions 30 and 31 but has not yet confirmed if she has been charged.

A 22-year-old woman was apprehended by Surrey Police on suspicion of causing a danger to road users, causing a public nuisance, and for being a pedestrian on the motorway. The force has also not yet said if she has been charged.
