Three quick thinking boys came to the rescue of a toddler who was found wandering the streets alone wearing just a nappy.
Kallum Mcgowan, Kaide Johnston and Atem Awungfack, all 11, were playing outside in Ernesford, Coventry when they found the small boy barefoot and alone, CoventryLive reported.
The trio managed to prevent the child from causing himself any harm, then rang the police for assistance and managed to get the help of some passing adults on Thursday, June 30.
The 11-year-old's then used their local knowledge to help officers find where the boy's parents lived by going house to house.
Kallum's mum, Jade, spoke of her pride at the caring actions of her son and his pals but questioned how such a thing could happen.
Jade said: "There was a little boy running across the middle of the road and running up and down the streets on Brendon Avenue and Edward Bailey Close.
"He was in a nappy and t-shirt with nothing on his feet. The boys ran down and chased after him and got him from the One Stop.
"They then called the police and told them a young child was running down the road. At this point some adults was helping and put the young child in a car while they were on the phone to the police.
"Then the police came up and two officers stayed with the child. The boys asked if they could come and look for the parents and the officer agreed, saying 'the more the merrier'.
"So an officer went with them as they knocked on around 20 doors along streets Edward Bailey and William McKee Close.
"They found the parents and the police officers brought the child back, thanked the boys and went into the house to speak with the mum. But what is that child doing running round the road by himself?
"I’m very proud of the three boys and their immediate reactions to try to stop the child, to know to call the police and to try help find the parents.
"It’s all very concerning and scary how a young child could get out of the house. Thankfully the boys where there to save the day and the child was returned home safely."
West Midlands Police have been approached for a comment regarding the incident and Coventry City Council have also been approached.
