Three consecutive clean sheets for futsal goalkeeper Conor Dow as PYF Saltires start Super League season on the front foot

Clean sheets are often difficult to achieve in the fast-paced, end-to-end game of futsal.

But Conor Dow, goalkeeper of defending Scottish Super League champions PYF Saltires, has banked three on the spin.

He realises that impressive run won’t last forever but is delighted with the solidity of the team so far this season.

When quizzed how long his clean sheet success can go, Dow laughed: “Forever I hope. They aren’t common in futsal but they are something I aim for in a season.

“We never want to concede goals so we will always aim for keeping clean sheets but we have to be realistic and accept that it won’t last forever.

“The no goals conceded so far comes from all the boys, we have defended as a team well and that’s all we can ask for.”

Saltires have recorded early-season wins against Galacticos Futsal Club, FC Edina and Sacachispas to sit top of the standings on goal difference.

“So far it has been the perfect start, I don’t think we could have asked for much more,” Dow added.

“We have scored 45 goals and not conceded. We have been playing well in our games and, with games most weeks now, we will only get stronger as we haven’t had a run of games in the past few seasons.

“The aim is always to finish top and secure a Champions League spot, but we know that will be other teams’ aims for the season too.

“We need to keep working hard throughout the season to try and achieve it. The boys enjoyed Austria and it just gives you an appetite for more.”

Saltires take on Dundee Futsal Club – also unbeaten so far this season – on Sunday evening at UHI Perth’s Academy of Sport and Wellbeing. Kick-off is pencilled in for 7.10pm and supporters are welcome.

On what he expects, Dow said: “A very tough test. They are always well organised and hard to break down.

“We played each other in a friendly in January and that was a tight game so I would expect Sunday to be similar to that.

“They have started the season with three wins, so both will be coming into the game with confidence. Hopefully we can get the win to continue our start to the season.”
