Threave Rovers have “a score to settle” when they take on league leaders Kilsyth Athletic this weekend.
In September, the Castle Douglas side lost 3-1 to the team currently topping the fourth division of the West of Scotland League.
And boss Vinnie Parker says his players are desperate for some payback.
He said: “The boys have been desperate for this fixture to come back again. They felt we were unlucky against them earlier in the season – to be fair to them they caught us on the break on the turnover.
“They’re good at what they do and they’re not sitting top of the league for no reason at all.
“It’s one we’re looking forward to and I think we’ve got a score to settle up there.”
Threave go into Saturday’s game after thumping Wigtown 5-0 in the Cree Lodge Cup on Tuesday night.
Tam Coles, Stuart Douglas, Tommy Smith, Dean Brotherston and Liam Park were all on target as Threave eased through.
On Saturday, Threave ran out comfortable 5-1 winners against BSC Glasgow after the game was switched to the North West Community Campus in Dumfries due to Meadow Park being waterlogged.
Threave were on top in the first half before finally going in front when Dylan Cairnie found the net after good work from Liam Park.
Connor Potts converted Alex Henderson’s cross to double the lead before Park made it three before the break.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the second half before pulling one back, however Tam Coles restored the advantage before Dean Brotherston wrapped things up.
Parker said: “I’m not one to be negative but I did say at one point I hoped it wasn’t going to be one of those days.
“Their goalkeeper seemed to be saving everything. We hit the post and the bar, it just wasn’t going in.
“As soon as we got that first goal it settled us down and we took control.
“We played pretty well. The first 20 minutes we tried to be solid and move the ball. The last time we played them, I thought they were pretty decent up front and tried to press us so Saturday was just about keeping them moving and tiring them out to wait for the gaps to appear, then we got at them.
“We missed a few chances and their goalkeeper had an excellent game. He had six or seven top saves. We’ve hit the bar several times and hit the post so we were probably unlucky not to score a few more goals.”
Completing a good day for Threave was the fact third placed St Peter’s lost to West Park United.
It means Threave are one point off the final promotion spot with two games in hand over St Peter’s.
Parker said: “It gives us a wee buffer if we win our games in hand. We need to take care of our side of things but it takes a wee bit of the pressure off.”
