Thousands raised for family of 12-year-old who had 'whole life ahead of her'

Thousands have been raised for the family of a 12-year-old girl who died after being hit by a van.

Lexi McDavid was hit by a white Mercedes van as she got off a bus on Princess Drive, Huyton, on Tuesday, June 7. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 3.30pm and rushed the 12-year-old to Alder Hey Hospital, where she died a short time later.

Cousin Susie Murphy set up a GoFundMe after Lexie's death to raise funds so the family could give her the "send off she deserves". Writing on the appeal, which has a target of £10,000, Susie said: "Our gorgeous Lexi was taken from all her family last night far too soon just 12 years old. She was hit by a white van on Princess Drive in Huyton.

"Lexi was a gorgeous twin with her whole life ahead of her and I'm just trying to help take some stress off the family and give her the send off she deserves." She added: "If anyone could help out no matter how big or small would be much appreciated.

"Thanks you so much. Her family are all heartbroken as you can imagine and they thank you for all your kind words at this heartbreaking time."

The GoFundMe appeal has now passed £7,000 and, on Friday, Susie added the update: "Just want to say a thank you to each and every one of you for your kind words and donations it really means a lot thanks so much love you all."

Others have paid tribute to Lexi, including Gerard Peston - headteacher of Broughton Hall Catholic High School, where Lexi was a pupil. He said: "Lexi was a much-loved pupil at Broughton Hall, by staff and her peers. She was a bright, articulate, funny and intelligent pupil.

"She represented the year group at numerous whole school celebrations, where she was known for her beautiful speaking voice. We offer our heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers to her family, friends and our school community. Lexi will be greatly missed at Broughton Hall.”
