The average cost of putting the heating on will get more expensive in 2023 as the price cap rises once again but there's one UK energy supplier offering its customers free services to help cut costs this Christmas.
As Ofgem raises the average price of standard energy to £4,279 per year, households will be paying an extra £200 per month compared to costs in December 2021. To help tackle rising costs OVO Energy customers can apply to get free boiler services and discounts on a more energy efficient one.
Statistics from the Energy Saving Trust shows that replacing old boilers can save the average four person household up to £365 on bills each year, as out-of-date parts and heating elements take more energy to heat homes. Fitting a new boiler can cost anywhere between £1,500 and £3,500 so although there's a clear solution to save money on heating, it requires a big upfront payment to see the cost-cutting benefits.
A 'catch-22' for households during the current cost of living is that many can't afford the initial expense of fitting a new boiler, but OVO Energy customers can access funding if they know where to go. Earlier this year the supplier started its £50m Winter Support Package, designed to help its customers who are struggling to keep up with rising bills.
Everything from debt repayments and energy saving product installations to help customers, whether you pay by direct debit, on demand or use a prepayment meter. Free electric blankets proved to be the most in-demand item on offer with all 30,000 going within days of the announcement back in October.
With just a few months until the scheme closes, at the end of March 2023, customers can still apply for free boiler services, which can be done through this 'apply for support' link. Customers can apply and receive either a free boiler service, around £100, or money to put towards buying a new one.
When applying, OVO Energy looks at households disposable income, debt, energy costs and any medical needs to determine what each individual customer is eligible for.
Customers can apply online or via the suppliers mobile app, to get access to funding customers should be prepared to answer general account information questions as well as income details.
