More than 6,000 noncitizens were mistakenly added to New Jersey's voter rolls because of a software error at the state Motor Vehicle Commission, Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced Tuesday.
The error affected about 6,600 people who identified themselves as noncitizens while applying for driver's licenses or identification cards between June 2023 and June 2024 but were nevertheless registered to vote, according to POLITICO. Fewer than 400 of them subsequently cast ballots in elections held since 2023.
