Thousands line Edinburgh city centre streets for 'packed' Pride March 2023

Thousands of Edinburgh locals have lined the streets of the city centre during what has been described as the 'biggest Pride' event to date.

Colourful images taken from the Scottish Parliament building at Holyrood and the nearby Canongate show scores of flags, banners and members of the LGBTQI+ community enjoying the celebrations.

Several streets have been closed off in the capital ahead of the event on Saturday, June 24, as locals make their way along Canongate, George IV Bridge, Lothian Street and through Charles Street before ending at the Pride Festival Village.

Shortly after leaving Holyrood at 1pm, the Canongate was awash with colours representing the Pride flag. The main Pride event will be headlined by Louisa Johnson and RuPaul's Drag Race UK winner Danny Beard.

Ahead of the events, organisers had said: "Pride Events is excited to share that Pride Edinburgh will be back and bigger than ever for its 26th event on Saturday, June 24."

Those attending have said it is the biggest turnout in recent years. (Twitter/Cammy Day)

Taking to Twitter, dozens of participants or those watching on uploaded pictures from the march, as one user said: "Attending Edinburgh Pride for the first time - completely overwhelmed by the size of the crowd!"

Another added: "Edinburgh Pride is PACKED!!! So much joy and such an incredible turnout!"

Council leaders past and present, Cammy Day and Adam McVey were also spotted enjoying themselves at the event. Cammy uploaded various pictures showing a huge turnout, with the caption: "Great to join @PrideEdinburgh and thousands of supporters for the 2023 Pride March."

While Adam added: "Huge turnout at @EdinburghPride A March of protest, love & joy!"
