Thomas Tuchel faces £100m transfer regret with Arsenal lurking for Chelsea's Armando Broja

I have longed to see the day that a Cobham graduate valued at £100m. It was always going to happen because Chelsea Academy just can’t stop delivering on high-quality players. We may have bit the bullet on the decision to sell this particular player, but fortunately, he could be ours once again in 2023.

Tammy Abraham has been said to be of serious value to his current club Roma. So valuable that they are looking to attach a £100m price tag. I feel like a proud older sibling, having watched him grow into the player that he is now.

Personally, I think £100m is rather high for him right now, but he has turned into a beast. Would I take him back? Maybe in 2023, but I would hope that Chelsea does not make that same mistake with Armando Broja.

When you imagine a Chelsea team in 2023, you picture a Premier League winning side that has sorted out their attacking issues. A team going toe to toe with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

Would the team be with Armando Broja or Tammy Abraham? Who knows! There are three possibilities. Thomas Tuchel can rectify a possible mistake, make another mistake or stick with the surprising mistake of 2021.

Rectified Mistake

Mistakes are made every day. To be fair, I'm not entirely sold that Tuchel had made a mistake by selling Abraham. At the time, Chelsea had Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Olivier Giroud, and Abraham fighting for the same spot. It was a no-brainer to choose the shiny new players that had cost Chelsea a fortune. Werner and Havertz together cost a total of £132 million.

With that being said, both forwards have had their struggles this season. Werner remains subject to a bench position as he slowly works to gain the manager's trust, whilst Havertz has only recently hit the ground running. Since the start of the season, Abraham has scored 23 goals for the Italians, while the German duo has managed 18 between them.

I believe that Tuchel had made a wise choice, but it's time to call a spade a spade. The England international has proved his critics wrong, and Chelsea would be silly not to consider a return. Roma has placed a £100m price tag on him, which the Blues are certain to not entertain.

Luckily, having learned from their previous mistakes with Kevin De Bruyne and Mo Salah, there is a buy-back clause that can be triggered in 2023. Unless a new team makes the bid to match Roma's valuation, Abraham could be ours once again for roughly £66.5m.

Make Another Mistake

There is a lot of pressure on Tuchel to make an important Broja decision. The Albanian international is seriously contemplating his future at Chelsea as rival clubs begin to lurk. It's no surprise that Arsenal is one of the named clubs to register their interest and Chelsea's rivals can't seem to get enough of our talent.

Abraham is not an option for the 2022 summer transfer window, especially with his new price tag. It would be extremely unlike for Chelsea to make such a business decision regardless of who the new owner may be. Could this force Tuchel's hand in ensuring Broja doesn't leave?

I cannot wait to see how this will play out. A decision will need to be made sooner rather than later to avoid conflict. Another loan spell may not be enough for the Albanian.

Reports suggest that he is interested in seeing what Chelsea has in store for him in the upcoming season. In less sugar-coated terms, the young man wants his flowers! He wants the game time, but something has to give with Havertz, Werner, and Romelu Lukaku in the mix, which brings me to the last point.

Stick with the Surprising mistake

Lukaku was the shock that many Chelsea fans may or may not have seen coming. Whilst he excelled in Italy during his spell with Inter Milan, he hasn't quite lived up to that expectation with Chelsea.

Maybe the air in Italy invokes better playing from centre-forwards? Who knows. Considering Abraham's form, it might be something to look into!

Jokes aside, Lukaku will be one of Tuchel's biggest gambles. He could sell, stick, or limit Lukaku to incorporate Broja or an Abraham return. Broja will have an assured route into Chelsea's squad if he sells the Belgian. He could even be given heaps of game time as I predict Werner's tenure would also be coming to an end. However, Chelsea would not want to take the financial hit.

If we stick with Lukaku, and Werner is looking to be on the way out, Broja could still break into the first team. However, this possibly excludes a 2023 Tammy Abraham return. I still believe 'big Rom' could come in good for the Blues. It takes forgiveness and patience from the Chelsea fans, and his confidence will be back up again.

There are so many possibilities for Tuchel to asses, and I wouldn't want to be in his shoes. The next decision he makes could be the best he's ever made or the worst, and the ball is in his court.

Well, that's if Chelsea makes it to the transfer window without the Government restrictions.
