Thomas Partey provides major fitness update ahead of Arsenal's crucial top-four run-in

Thomas Partey has taken to social media to provide a major update on his fitness ahead of Arsenal's clash against West Ham United on Sunday.

The Ghana international suffered a thigh injury during the 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace earlier this month. He was sorely missed during back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Southampton, although Mikel Arteta's side have since steadied the ship, securing vital wins against Chelsea and Manchester United in the last week.

Now, Partey has posted a video of him running on a treadmill, a boost for Arsenal fans, who will be hoping he can return to first-team action before the season concludes, with crucial matches coming up - including next month's North London Derby against Antonio Conte's Tottenham Hotspur. Supporters will be hoping for the former Atletico Madrid star to return to Arteta's matchday squad as soon as possible considering he was in brilliant form at the base of the Spanish coach's favoured 4-3-3 set-up.

Speaking about Partey's injury earlier this month, Arteta said: "It’s a little bit ambiguous but he has a significant injury. We will have to keep assessing him but he will be out for some weeks.

"It’s an area he had a previous injury and he felt it straight away and he’s not fit." Belgian youngster Albert Sambi Lokonga had initially deputised in the centre of the park during the aforementioned losses against the Seagulls and the Saints but he was replaced by experienced midfielder Mohamed Elneny for the recent two wins.

Elneny delivered solid displays alongside Granit Xhaka, earning praise from Arsenal hero Ian Wright. Speaking on BBC Match of the Day, Wright said: “Xhaka was magnificent, Odegaard did his stuff again, but Elneny - for someone that last played before Chelsea was in December - he came in today…dependable, professional, he never lets the team down.

"He had the most passes today and the most interceptions, he just gets himself in the right position. He’s the kind of player, he wants to pass forward.

"He’s somebody who kept the ball going and kept Arsenal going. He’s the kind of player - and he may leave - you come in when you haven’t played for so long and he’s been magnificent.”
