This Morning star 'upset and appalled' at police 'throwing mud' at Nicola Bulley

This Morning presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary discussed the latest developments in the Nicola Bulley case with panellists Gyles Brandreth and beauty expert Ateh Jewel.

Dermot noted the home secretary had raised concerns with police after they revealed personal information about the mother-of-two.

Ateh fumed: "I am so appalled and upset about this. I am a very proud ambassador of menopause mandate it just seems so medieval to be talking about menopause symptoms.

"Again, this old stereotype of unbalanced, unhinged. I think find this woman help her family it's not about throwing mud at her and talking about issues of alcohol and the menopause."

"I find it disturbing and how far we need to come," the beauty expert added.

Alison added: "The fact that people want to sell these stories about her is so sad."

This Morning regular Gyles suggested the police "felt forced" into releasing personal details about the missing mum because "there has been so much speculation".

Gyles referred to police officers appearing on This Morning previously asking people not to speculate as it "gets in the way of the police's work".

"There was so much speculation, so much online, that two days ago the Lancashire police decided, 'We've actually got to say what we've been thinking, what we've been doing.'"

The This Morning host suggested the police revealed "more than was necessary" about Nicola and the case.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Lancashire Police said the missing mum had suffered with "some significant issues with alcohol" and "ongoing struggles with the menopause".

Nicola's family later released a statement via the police calling on "appalling" speculation surrounding the mum's private life to "stop".

In a new statement, they said: "As a family, we were aware beforehand that Lancashire Police, last night, released a statement with some personal details about our Nikki.

"Although we know that Nikki would not have wanted this, there are people out there speculating and threatening to sell stories about her. This is appalling and needs to stop. The police know the truth about Nikki and now the public need to focus on finding her."
