This Morning's Alison Hammond intervenes to support caller after 'heartbreaking' comment

Alison Hammond stepped into offer support to a This Morning caller after being upset by a comment they made about feeling 'unwanted' due to being plus sized, with the presenter offering some empowering advice.

As plenty of viewers maintain tha t she should have won the Best Presenter accolade at last week's National Television Awards, Alison came to the end of a full week at the helm of This Morning on Friday, with her and presenting partner in crime Dermot O'Leary having an extended run as the ITV daytime show's main hosts, while Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby take a break.

The last episode of the week saw Alison and Dermot joined by regular guest Gyles Brandreth and a surprising contributor, ex Countdown star Carol Vorderman, with the two teaming up to lead a phone-in offering viewers the chance to call in and get dating advice.

One of the callers who spoke live on air was Dionne, with the caption 'How do I find love again at 57?' appearing on screen as she spoke to the show's four stars. Dionne admitted that she missed male company and doing things like going out for dinner, when she then struck a chord with Alison as she remarked: "I don't like being single and, I have to say, Alison probably understands me in this next sentence; I am a plus size lady and that seems to go against what a lot of them men out there are going for."

She added: "As soon as they realise you are slightly bigger they lose all interest and disrespect you." Quick to respond, Carol told Dionne: "And that's terrible, that's disgusting," before Alison intervened to offer Dionne some much needed reassurance, saying: "If that person's not into you, then that's not your person. There's plenty of other people who are going to love all that fluff babes, they're going to love all that juice, trust me."

Alison continued: "A lot of them say they don't like it, but when they have a taste of it, they absolutely love it. Don't even worry about that, put it - the bigness - to the back of your mind and let your personality come through, because once they see who you truly are, I'm telling you, they will fall in love with you."
