This Morning fans slam Vanessa Feltz's ‘utter tosh’ phone-in advice to feuding families

This Morning fans were left unimpressed by advice offered up to ITV viewers during a phone-in on Thursday’s instalment of the programme.

TV personality Vanessa Feltz, 60, manned the This Morning phones during a segment with hosts Josie Gibson and Vernon Kay, who are standing in for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

The ITV programme asked viewers at home to call in to the programme with their family feuding issues ahead of the long Bank Holiday weekend for Easter.

The issues the presenters tackled ranged from the struggles of working with a parent to suspicions of family members who had given them Covid-19.

But as a woman who had recently lost her own mother asked how to deal with her “rude” mother-in-law, Vanessa went on to suggest the bereaved caller “invite her mother-in-law to be closer to you”.

She said: “You can also say, as my mother in law, I would love to have a really close relationship with you. There’s an enormous gap in my life, are you going to step into it?”

But ITV viewers were not taken with the advice and took to Twitter to label it “utter tosh”.

One fan wrote: “This advice isn’t it! Fake it till you make it?! No, if someone is toxic towards you, cut them off!”

Another tweeted: “So far Vanessa has just told all three women to ignore how they feel and put up with it for a quiet life!”

Another fan posted: “The best advice you can get … Don't listen to the advice on This Morning.”

Another fan tweeted: “Imagine how gone in the head you'd need to be to heed advice from Vanessa.”

This comes after the This Morning studio was plunged into chaos on Wednesday morning, as a guest dog “did a runner” on the show in the middle of an interview with its owner.

Pup Missy went missing in the middle of the segment, as owner Beth Lee-Crowther told how she can talk to animals.

Host Josie suddenly asked physic Beth what Missy was thinking as she had “done a runner”.

The cameras then panned to the kitchen area, where Missy had disappeared behind the counters, where chef Ainsley Harriet’s food lay waiting for his cooking segment later in the programme.

Vernon was suppressing a cheeky smile as he said: “I’ll be honest with you, I’ll tell you what Missy’s thinking. Missy has dived into Ainsley’s chicken.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
