This Morning fans in disbelief over Dermot O'Leary's real age as he celebrates birthday

This Morning viewers could not believe what they were hearing on the show on Tuesday, as one host celebrated a big birthday.

Dermot O'Leary was surprised by co-host Alison Hammond and the show's crew in the latest episode, as it was confirmed his birthday is on Wednesday.

But he wasn't the only one in shock, as viewers were left in disbelief when Alison announced Dermot's age - with a banner at the bottom of the screen also revealing this.

The number given was 50, but viewers had to double-take as they could not believe Dermot was 50 years old, and many believed he looked much younger.

Dermot did confirm his age though as the celebrations continued at the end of the episode, and he really is turning 50 on Wednesday.

The TV presenter is currently 49 years old, born on May 24 1973.

As the celebrations continued, viewers shared their shock as they couldn't believe Dermot's real age.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer commented over the scenes: "No way is Dermot 50! Bloody hell, he doesn’t look it."

Another fan tweeted: "Happy Birthday Dermot!! #ThisMorning but 50? Wouldn’t have guessed that."

A third fan commented: "No way Dermot is 50?!" as a fourth said: "Wait Dermot is 50?"

The comments kept on coming too, with another tweet reading: "Dermo’s 50!? No way," while a sixth viewer wrote: "Jeez Dermot looks good for 50!"

It comes as Dermot and Alison replaced Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield for Monday and Tuesday, following Phillip's exit from the ITV show.

In a statement this weekend, Phillip said: "I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.

"Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

"So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month."

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
