Charles Barkley regularly offers up controversial opinions as an analyst on TNT’s Inside the NBA show, but he may have topped them all with his take on Sunday night.
As the show was heading to a commercial break, the veteran television analyst gave his opinion on cats, which may have upset feline enthusiasts across the country.
“A cat is not a real pet,” Barkley said.
Then, when co-host Ernie Johnson asked why Barkley believes this, Barkley gave a simple-yet-effective answer, which confused the rest of the panel more than it pleased them.
“Because it’s not a dog,” he said.

Clearly, this confirms that Barkley is a dog person, but Barkley doesn’t want people to believe he hates cats. Later in the show, Barkley clarified that, while he doesn’t consider cats as pets, it doesn’t mean that he has something against the feline species as a whole.
“I don’t dislike cats. I just don’t think they’re real pets,” he said.
