'This is confirmation' - Liverpool fans have Darwin Nunez transfer theory after Instagram 'like'

Liverpool continue to be linked with Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, and fans are getting excited about a possible deal.

The Reds are keen on bringing the 22-year-old to Merseyside, and the feeling is mutual from the player’s perspective. Manchester United, Newcastle and Atletico Madrid have also been credited with an interest in the striker.

As further updates about Nunez’s future continue to emerge, something on social media has caught the attention of Liverpool fans. It also concerns current Reds striker, Roberto Firmino.

VIEW FROM PORTUGAL: Portuguese media react to Nunez 'jackpot' as Liverpool close in

The Brazilian posted a series of photos on Instagram of himself and his wife at a music event, accompanied by a quote from a bible verse. His Liverpool team-mate Harvey Elliott liked the post, as did Nunez.

It has also been suggested that Nunez only recently followed Firmino on Instagram, although it is not clear. This ‘update’ has led to plenty of Liverpool fans getting excited about a potential deal.

Nunez wants a move to Anfield although Liverpool are reluctant to do business at Benfica's asking price of €100million (£85.5m) and won't be drawn into a bidding war, with Man United in particular also interested in the player.

However, those close to Benfica have indicated the Portuguese side are open to a structured deal which would see Liverpool pay an initial €80m (£68.4m) set fee with €20m (£17.1m) in add-ons.

Any transfer, though, is dependent on the Reds raising funds by moving on some of their other forwards. Sadio Mane seems likely to sign for Bayern Munich, with Liverpool holding out for a fee close to £42.75m, while Takumi Minamino is nearing an expected £17m departure with a number of clubs interested.
